Ninety Eight Reviews

Location location location with easy access to the seafront, off road parking, a short walk to the train station, buses, local shops great fish and chips and a bakery and a big Lidl. The house is well heated, ventilated and there's lots of hot water. Good kitchen and utility room. WiFi was very good too. Probably has one of the most comfortable holiday home beds I have slept in. Lovely to have a garden should the weather be good enough to enjoy it.
A very nice property in a good location just round the corner from shops and takeaways and a short walk from Southend East or the coast. No noise or disturbance at night. Plenty of tea and coffee when we arrived and as well as some welcome jaffa cakes. We reported a missing coffee machine and the owner found a spare for us the same day. The smallest bedroom was a little cramped, but the others were all a good size. The top floor bedroom only had a clothes rack instead of a wardrobe, but this was not a real issue. The WiFi seemed to work well throughout the property. As others have noted, the kitchen is not overprovided with utensils, but the basics are there. We used the dishwasher, grill, hob and washing machine without problems. We would be happy to stay there again.

Lovely house, very clean, lovely new carpet upstairs. The garden is amazing and it's clear Mei loves doing it. Mei and Victor are so friendly and helpful! We didn't have enough clothes hangers so Mei brought some more. Also, the kitchen tap started leaking and Victor came to sort it without any problems. The only things lacking were an oven tray, a small saucepan and a serving spoon for vegetables but apart from that everything was lovely! There is a Lidl a stone's throw away from the house and also a really good fish and chip shop. The bins are a bit confusing they don't have dustbins you just put the binbags out on the street! This attracts foxes and rats etc no idea why the council do it this way. Lots of the bags get torn open and litter goes everywhere. We weren't that keen on SouthendonSea it's dog rough and policesecurity are everywhere you even have to scan your Lidl receipt to get out of Lidl if you've used selfcheckout but the property itself is one of the best places we've stayed. LeighonSea, which is abut 4 miles down the road, is much nicer.
Had a very pleasant and comfortable 4 night stay. Close to local shops, Southchurch Park and Seafront. Lovely backyard garden but could have done with an outdoor clothesline. Otherwise I would highly recommend.
Property was ideal for us, just as described at booking. Generally, clean comfortable and well equipped property but minor points which lowered scores. Oven not been checked and was very dirty so had to clean just to use. Toaster was dangerous and not acceptable to put a an attended toaster label on it. Toasters are not expensive so silly to risk. Owners really helpful when couldnt get wi fi to work
Twice now I have stayed in this property and it really is homely with everything you need. Very close to beach and town centre and a very quiet road and lovely garden and we had a really pleasant stay. Love the welcome pack left each time too.
I'll address a few of the former complaints made about this holiday home as well as say broadly I would recommend this house to others, friends and family, should they want to stay in Southend. The shower glass downstairs is difficult to move and requires maintenance. The garden is very pleasant, full of vegetables and vegetation but still able to walk around it and enjoy the outdoor space August. Cannot comment on dishwasher or bbq as didn't try to use them. The beds were comfortable, even the low bunk. Pillows, sheets, towels, kitchen amenities were all good, pots and pans etc all fine in good order and useable. The decor is good, not too much not too little by way of furniture etc. The blindscurtains situation could be improved sunlight does stream through so it's worth noting for those affected by such things. Another thing to note, while watching TV at 9pm we were asked by the immediate neighbours to be quieter as the walls are thin and all noise can be heard, so it's definitely worth noting that noises won't be appreciated.

It was dirty when we arrived. We spent the first hour cleaning. The dishwasher only washed with cold water and was mouldy. Downstairs shower screen was unmovable. The cooker had dirty pan in it and didnt work properly it took 45 minutes to grill some bacon . The garden was very overgrown and the bbq was overgrown so I couldnt use it. Hall and landing light was constantly turning on and off day and night. House needs curtains in all the bed rooms not just the main bedroom. The house did have welcome pack of milk biscuits and croissants and fresh juice. Lots of cleaning stuff for us to clean . It was only a short walk to the front and a Lidl the other direction. We came home a day early as this was the worst sykescottage we have ever stayed in and we have been using them for nearly 10 years I will make sure I spend more time reading the reviews in future as many of my comments are old problems that other people have said.
New pots for cooking And dishwasher doesnt clean And new tins for oven
Do not book here and certainly do not use Sykes. Property only superficially clean and safety issues identified. Could only stay for one day of a full weeks holiday due to concerns about health.
The house was very well provided, very clean and on the whole very comfortable. As we were 4 adults needing 3 bedrooms one used the bottom bunk which was not as comfortable. It was good to have a second toilet and walk in shower but it was not a wet room as on the listing. We were advised to bring tea towel, oven gloves, and laundry detergent. So we were pleasantly surprised to find these provided as well as aprons, washing up material. So many thanks but it would be good to update listings to say these are provided.

A really nice stay. We found in the house every little detail we needed. Thanks for everything,
Alyson
The house was great, it had everything that we could need and more. The reclining chairs were very welcome after a busy day. The double bedrooms were spacious with comfy beds. The kitchen dining room was light and so well equipped. We were thankful for the welcome pack and enjoyed picking tomatoes from the lovely garden. The location was in a quiet street and not too far from the town. We had a really good stay here.
Great house and garden in good location. Garden was lovely and we loved the fresh tomatoes! Really enjoyed our stay here, however there are a few things I feel I need to raise. 1. Drinking glasses very limited drinking glasses in the house, could definitely do with some more tumbler style. 2. Curtains are definitely needed in back and kids bedrooms. Sun was streaming in back bedroom at sunrise. 3. Hallway light automatically clicks on and off day and night. 4. Bedsprings are very prominent on mattress on the bottom bunk in kids room. 5. Never found the rack for the bbq 6. No Sky TV as listed. 7. There was also a query before we went whether there was a hot tub which I revived mixed advice on from Sykes when I queried it as it was still on the property description, just to confirm there is no hot tub at the property. Overall had a lovely stay. Many thanks
Michelle
Great location, welcome pack was a nice touch and a surprise. The house was comfortable and spacious. Lots of family related items which were useful. The installation of properly fitted bedroom curtains would be valuable, blinds alone are not sufficient to block out light.
Elizabeth
There was a hot tub listed in the particulars but no sign at the property.

A will book again
Let me described it in one word Home From Home. Beautiful and clean house with nice garden. Lovely environment with lots of fun The Beach, Adventure island, Game House.
Michael
Enjoyable stay, couldn't turn heating down though, especially in bedroom. Everything else was fine though, just a pity weather wasn't.
The property was really much nicer than we anticipated. The owners were very kind and friendly. I would definitely recommend to others! Thank you for a wonderful stay at 98!
Kathleen
Ninety Eight is a great place to stay it was so nice of the host to provide 'Welcome' refreshments on our arrival. Despite the heatwave, we had a very pleasant stay as air conditioning units were available in the bedrooms. It was lovely to enjoy the cool of the evening sitting in the beautiful garden. Everything had been thoughtfully prepared. Hope to stay at this lovely house again sometime soon. Thank you to the property owner & all involved in the upkeep of the house.
